Berg: String Quartet Op. 3 / Lyric Suite - Classical Music for String Quartet Performances, Chamber Music Concerts & Romantic Evenings

This is the best currently available recording of this music. The ABQ play with true passion and commitment in both of these highly Romantic works. By contrast, both the brilliant Leipzig Quartet and the Arditi Quartet recordings of the same pieces are both too cool and detatched, though the program notes on their cds are much more detailed than EMI's. This recording is now hard to find, but it's certainly worth looking for. The ABQ's performances of these pieces are also included on a DG compilation of Berg's music, though I don't know if that recording is the same as this. EMI's sound is excellent.
