Designed for exceptional spin, Solinco Barb Wire 1.20 offers the greatest spin potential and features the same square profile geometry as the popular Tour Bite. In order to offer even greater spin potential, the string is subjected to an axially twisting procedure, increasing the surface roughness for increased grip. The result is that Barb Wire is the most spin friendly string in the line, while offering some interesting playing characteristics. The unique co-polyester construction combines excellent durability and resilience for power. Best suited to hard-hitting baseline players looking for maximum spin and durability without sacrificing all feel and power. Construction: Co-polyester monofilament Color: Black Gauge: 1.20 mm (17g) Length: 656 ft / 200m Need help selecting a string? Check out our Choosing The Right Tennis String guide for more assistance.
SOLINCO
I tried this string based upon my experience with Solinco's Hyper G string which I enjoyed for the spin, forgiving nature, and durability. The only drawback with the Hyper G was the stretch with use resulting in a loss of tension over time (a problem with most polyester strings). The Barb Wire appeared to be similar to Head's Rip control, which plays like the Hyper G, but also losses tension with use. The Barb wire has less stretch for the time in use, strung at 58 lbs. while providing effective control over the ball. Transmission of impact is more harsh, so for players with tennis elbow, avoiding this string may be advised. I play at the 4.0 level and like this string for both touch, and power. Topspin, slice, and kick can be delivered with lobs of power. The racquet is a Head TiS2 just for a reference, ; with play time 3-4 times a week (3 hour intervals), the string has not shown much stretch in 6 months of use. Recommended for advanced players without tennis elbow. Even though I string my own racquets, the resistance to stretch is a plus.
