Let's start off with the two negatives. The first negative is that this bass is a 34" full scale bass, not a 30" short scale as advertised. It's screamingly obvious with it parked next to my EB-0 on the stand. This is why the bass doesn't get the full five stars. The second negative is that the box it was shipped in had little packing material aside from the gig bag (which is decent as gig bags go). As in, there were two chunks of styrofoam the size of a hardback book at either end of the shaped cardboard box holding it in place. Traveling halfway across the USA to my house, it got a ding in the clear coat along the edge of the guitar near the output jack. I was able to buff out some of the cloudiness, but there's still a chip in the clear that looks like someone gave it a tiny poke with a nail. I just wanted any other buyers to be aware of this before ordering. Now for the positives! The bass actually looks much nicer in person than in the pictures! The photos are slightly compressed for width - the guitar is definitely fuller and rounder than it appears. The neck has a J-bass profile: skinny at the nut, but widens and flattens as you go up. The frets ends are trimmed up to where there's no sprout, and the edges of the fingerboard are slightly rolled. The back is satin-finished and not sticky. Mine has a bit of a sharp spot at the bottom edge of the nut on the fretting side that I need to file down because it pokes my finger uncomfortably, but otherwise the slot depth is fine. The pickups sound pretty good, though I don't hear that much of a difference in the sound when tweaking the volumes. The tone knob does make a noticeable change, softening the sound out nicely to bring out the deep notes. I'm sure that if you were to buy it because you're a J enthusiast, some new electronics could certainly improve on what's there. If you're a full-scale J-player on a budget and want a nice-playing instrument - with the possibility of being a mod platform - then this isn't a bad choice at all.
