I have a pretty decent modern cello and a number of years experience as an amateur cellist. The particular cello I am playing these days has never had a very inspiring C string . I have generally had Larsen mediums on it, but also did briefly try a spirocore C which was not a really large improvement.The new magnacore C immediately generated totally new, rich vibrant inspirational tones in almost all of its notes. While the strings are very expensive, they are much cheaper than trying to get inspired with a new cello! I hope they last a long time. i did later add a Magnacore G which made less of an improvement on my cello which already sounded very nice with regular medium Larsens on it. For now I will keep them as a pair however. I have experimented with a number of A strings since my open A was a little harsh to my ears . The Evah Pirazzi Gold was the most lively and resonant, but I think I will probably stick with Larsen soloist A and D .which sound good and probably mesh with the magnacores better. The soloist A is less harsh on my cello than the regular A. I found the same with the soloist D which resonates significantly more next to a Soloist A than the Evah Pirazzi Gold A. I have not tried the EvaH P gold D ...
